The tube was very expensive to produce and required a very high voltage transformer to generate an image. This very high voltage in the days of cloth covered wires was a real fire hazard so that most early CRT tube sets produced in the US were 3 or 5 inches.
This recreation has modern electronics so voltages levels to the tube are much lower. In England and Germany were braver and produced more of these larger screen high voltage sets. A set very similar to this one is seen in Charlie's home (with his four grandparents in one bed in front of it) in the original Willy Wonka movie.
